A Checklist for Camping in Warm Weather

Have you ever gone camping and realized you haven't brought
the right gear or supplies? Here are some pointers when
packing for the great outdoors.

Check out the weather

Find out about the weather conditions and temperatures of
your intended destination. You may want to avoid going to
certain areas during months when temperatures there are
uncomfortably high.

Remember that weather can be unpredictable despite what the
forecast may say so be prepared for the unexpected.

Liquid assets

Don't'tfall into the trap of choosing to carry less water so
that you have less weight to lug around.

A very bad idea!

You want to bring at least a gallon of water per person per
day that you will be camping. Yes, this will be heavy, but
it's a lot heavier to carry someone to safety should they
get dehydrated.

That said, it's also a good idea to bring some sports drink
as well. Not only do these include water, but they also
include electrolytes that are easily lost in the heat. Or
you can look into powders to stir into the water that you
brought.

And they are wonderful to taste!

Eating right

You may lose your appetite in the heat but it is important
to keep eating so that your body'sbalance is maintained. In
extreme weather, your body can lose valuable electrolytes
that can only be replaced by proper nourishment.

Nibble on something every time you take a swig of water. A
couple of nuts or pretzels will suffice. A salty or sugary
snack is best.

Dress

Wearing lightweight cotton clothing, preferably in muted
shades helps in the heat. And your head and face need
adequate protection from the sun. So try a hat or a sun
visor and apply sunscreen on skin bare to the sun.

The heat will be bad enough. Don't make it worse by getting
sun burnt.

Always carry a first aid kit and something you can use to
signal for help in case of an emergency.

Bring a friend

To get the most out of your camping trip share the
experience with a good friend. You won't'tregret it!
